The Town Theater of Ruma
The Town Theater of Ruma was founded in 1994 with a goal to function through creative actions in the area of culture. The classical approach to the theater was cultivated until the encounter with modern tendencies, and especially ever since Trema Fest was established in 1998, when there was a turn and the Theater expanded its activities into all the areas of citizens’ initiatives.
The theater gathers around 100 active members who are organized into 6 sections. Its artistic managers work on their education; several workshops have been started; working with target groups the Theater deals with topics of greater significance to the local community. The Town Theater of Ruma cultivates different theater expressions; it works on the animation of positive citizens’ actions; it plans the foundation of the volunteer center; it works on the theater networking system and regional partnership projects.
It gathers interested individuals and authors around projects and asserts their work. It co-operates with cognate cultural institutions. It is actively involved in various humanitarian actions and activities of significance to local community and the region.
As a part of the project “Theater in Service of Education”- fight against addiction diseases and AIDS, next to the presence of a workshop, the Theater also educates population through the play “Virus.” It was a participant of the campaign of the Committee for Human Rights in 2001, a participant of the campaign “Towards Europe…” in 2002 and a participant of the regional project Geotakt 2 in 2003. The Town Theater of Ruma is the winner of the following festivals: 43rd Republican Festival of Amateur Theaters of Serbia in Kula, Winners Festival in Novi Becej, Festival of New Theatrical Forms in Pancevo and May Games of the Province of Vojvodina in Indjija.
Every year in March, with the support of the Provincial Secretariat of Culture and Education, the Municipality of Ruma and the Cultural Center of Ruma, the Theater organizes the festival of authorial projects “Trema Fest”, the theater review of European multicultural action. The theater has only one full-time employee (technical secretary) who is financed by membership fees and ticket sales.
Town Theater of Ruma enthusiastically continues to experiment and make its way on the map of the world theaters.
